Very poignant and perceptive. The equalization issue is never explained clearly by AB government. Most opponents believe the AB government writes a cheque to the Quebec government.

Indeed, Quebec is somehow our enemy and mentor while Ottawa is our forever war, no matter what.

Yes sadly far too many believe this blatant lie. The article by the Calgary economist Trevor Tombe he explained it all and how it was not bad for Alberta a while back. Article here https://www.policyschool.ca/news/why-equalization-is-not-unfair-to-alberta/

Yet he was at her last Alberta panel event sitting on the panel right next to her while she was spewing her usual lies re payments to Ottawa. He sat next to her and said nothing. He looked uncomfortable as he avoided eye contact with Smith and was very focused in sipping water.

Yes, how Neoclassical economists support infinite growth on a finite planet 🌎 is no longer a good look. Very disappointing move by Trevor Tombe. The article he wrote is good, though.

Indeed, the UCP is completely captured in oil-friendly policies, by the industry. Albertans are stuck with dine and dash companies who leave the cleanup, and the health risks from leaking wells over decades, to the public!!

Loved the article.

Only one issue and that’s to do with the transfers. This past year because of the Trans Mountain line and the fully funded federal subsidy it skewed the numbers. Perhaps an average subsidy would have been better. Or am I wrong here.

Regardless great writing!

Canada averaged $20 billion in subsidies prior to 2024 but yes TMX, its tolls, and the carbon capture and storage scam are the main reasons for Canada’s bloated investments into the fossil fuel industry. Again, because it’s well known our oil quality doesn’t compete in the carbon market.
